I'm sorry. I didn't want to destroy the community. Or anybody's worlds. I just thought that the least I could do was make sure nobody got hurt again...

I can understand your sentiment, child, believe me. But to live is to accept the risk of pain. Would you rather an unchanging realty where everything was easy...but there could be no love?

Yeah, yeah, I know, the whole save everyone thing. But - and this is important - you didn't ask a lot of questions about what Scratch was doing. Which is, to be fair...you're young, and you were in a vulnerable emotional state, and he's very good at grooming his targets. You were used.

[And having said that, he turns to Karakael, lecturing.]

And, Kaaree, an important part of stopping people is knowing their motivation.

Besides, people will always hurt and be in pain! Fact of life. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. You can't ever stop the pain!

I know where that logic goes. You are better than that, child. You are worth something, to the community, to your friends and Issie, and to those of us who expect great things from you.

Do not tell me you have anything to be ashamed of. We all make foolish mistakes, and you are young enough to recover from it.

[A pause. Kefka sags and puts his head in his hands.]

[He sits up and puts his chin on his knees, talking to himself.]

What if I go help kill Satan...I think that'll be evil enough. Yes, ok, this is a plan. So. I may as well do this properly if I"m doing it, since I've temporarily turned good.

[And he points up at Retasu.]

You've got to get better self esteem and stop blaming yourself for everything!

*winces* I'm trying, but I just always see that I've messed up again and people I care about got hurt because of me!

[Karakael has been watching the two argue, a faint smile on his lips.]

Part of the difficulty in changing oneself for the better is dealing with failure.

But if your friends forgive you, then no harm has been done in the long run, correct? Crisis averted, no one harmed. And perhaps everyone involved has learned a bit.

If you feel worried that you're ruining all the things, ask the people involved if you are or not. Don't just assume. And if anyone tells you you're a horrible person, punch them in the face.
